DESCRIPTION

The overall objective of the department/subject of Dental Public Health Sciences is to develop and setup approaches for doctors and dental students to get community oriented dental training, research motivation and to solve community health and related problems. Bhitai Dental and Medical College has made a major commitment to community oriented medical and dental education. The 2nd year BDS students are required to visit rural communities to achieve the objectives of the community survey, through family health folders as a survey module, about data generation and studying the socio-economic, sanitary and health status of the population in the rural communities. In 3rd year, students are required to visit BHU’s and rural health centers for their integrated training.

The overall intent is to provide students opportunities to use their general biomedical knowledge to benefit communities through improved community based health services and for them to develop an understanding and a capacity to deal effectively with the health problems of the deprived population. In the third year and fourth year, clerkship in community health sciences collaborate with the clinical Departments so that the students have the experience of practicing ambulatory and family medicines to participate in the research oriented projects, and evaluate the effectiveness of the primary health care system. At this stage, students are also introduced to critical appraisal of articles in journals, bio-medical ethics and ethical issues that needed to be addressed in taking care of patients and communities.
