DESCRIPTION

Physiology is the study of how the body works in health, more specifically, the science which deals with the functions of the human body and its parts, and of the physical and chemical factors and processes involved. It includes the study of living organisms from cell to system and whole body. Physiology provides a description of the normal functions of the major systems of the human body, like nervous system, cardiovascular, respiratory, endocrine, musculoskeletal, elementary, and the genitourinary systems and to discuss the role of these systems in the maintenance of internal homeostasis. The course provides a base for the study of all clinical subjects, especially pathology and medicine.

The department is committed to outstanding research and excellence in the delivery of up-to-date physiology education to health sciences professionals which include medical, dental, nursing and pharmacy students. The courses taught to the students of first professional BDS includes theoretical discussion in the form of lectures, seminars, tutorials and group discussions. The lectures are more understandable by the use of audiovisual aids like multimedia and slide projections. The theoretical description is supported by the relevant practical which caters to the needs of the students. The department consists of a fully equipped laboratory to be used not only for the practical work related to Physiology but also for research.

It has a qualified and richly experienced faculty who is dedicated to promote the intellectual and professional abilities of the students. Apart from the routine academic activities, the department participates in and conducts workshop, seminars and conferences in conferences in collaboration with other departments of the institute.
